Council Decision 22 January 2001 setting up the European Union Military Committee

The 27 Chiefs of Defence (CHODs) of the European Member States met in Brussels under the Chairmanship of General Patrick de Rousiers. The agenda covered CSDP issues and had specific emphasis on the preparation of the December 2013 European Council, whose main focus will be defence.

Regarding the operations session, which are part of a broader EU's strategy and comprehensive approach to crisis management, the CHODs together with the EU Special Representatives of the respective regions and with the Military Mission and Operations Commanders , reviewed recent developments and discussed future trends on the EU military operations in the Sahel, Horn of Africa and the Balkans.
