Working Party on Human Rights (COHOM)
The Working Party on Human rights (COHOM) deals with human rights aspects of the external relations of the EU and supports the Council's decision-making process in this area.
Its main task is to help to identify EU strategic priorities on thematic and specific geographic issues. It also coordinates the positions of EU member states on thematic and geographic issues in multilateral human rights fora, such as the UN General Assembly (Third Committee) and the UN Human Rights Council.
In addition, COHOM promotes the development and oversees the worldwide implementation of EU policy in the field of human rights and democracy. This includes:
- EU human rights guidelines
- human rights dialogues and consultations with non-EU countries
