October European Council
The Council finalised preparations for the European Council meeting which will take place on 15 and 16 October 2015 and discussed draft conclusions for agreement by EU leaders. The European Council will focus on migration and discuss a number of different aspects of the issue. It will examine the progress achieved in implementing the orientations which were agreed at the September meeting of heads of state or government, and provide guidance on action to take forward the work on the European agenda for migration. It will also take stock of the Eastern Mediterranean-Western Balkan route conference and prepare the Valletta Summit.
"Addressing the migration issue is a challenge, and there is no one easy solution. We all agree that it is only through a balanced and comprehensive package of measures that Europe will be able to offer a response which is not only effective but which also respects our core values. Today's discussions have helped prepare the ground for the right decisions to be taken at the European Council later this week", said the minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg and President of the Council, Jean Asselborn.
