Main results

The Association Council took stock of the implementation of progress of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, which entered into force on 1 July 2016. The European Union and the Republic of Moldova reaffirmed their commitment to the process of political association and economic integration. The Association Council adopted a joint statement.

On the occasion of the Association Council, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Pavel Filip and the EU High Representative Federica Mogherini signed an agreement between the EU and the Republic of Moldova on security procedures for exchanging and protecting classified information.

The Council examined the reform process in the Republic of Moldova, as part of the political dialogue and cooperation. The Council also reviewed convergence between the EU and the Republic of Moldova in the field of foreign and security policy.

The Council discussed cooperation in the area of justice, freedom and security. This includes judiciary reform , the fight against corruption, organised crime, human trafficking, terrorism, irregular migration and money laundering.

The Council addressed progress made under the deep and comprehensive free trade area (DCFTA), as well as economic and sector cooperation between the EU and the Republic of Moldova.
