The Association Council took stock of progress in the implementation of the EU-Lebanon Association Agreement and of the EU-Lebanon partnership priorities and compact agreed on 15 November 2016.

A joint statement by the EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lebanon Gebran Bassil was issued following the Association Council.

The Association Council reviewed the state of EU-Lebanon bilateral relations, and exchanged views in particular on some of the priority actions, including growth and jobs with a particular focus on trade, security and counterterrorism, governance and the rule of law, as well as migration and mobility. The Association Council followed up on the Brussels conference on Supporting the future of Syria and the region which took place on 4-5 April 2017.

In the margins of the Association Council, the EU and Lebanon have successfully completed negotiations of the International Agreement on Lebanon's participation in the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA). PRIMA is expected to mobilise joint research and innovation on two challenges relevant to Lebanon: efficient and sustainable food production and water provision.

The EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lebanon Gebran Bassil also discussed the consequences of the Syria crisis as well as on human rights and judicial reform in Lebanon.
