The European Research Area (ERA) and its related groups

The European Research Area (ERA) is the fundamental concept underpinning the research and development policies of the European Union, with strong links with innovation and education policy.

The Europe 2020 flagship initiative "Innovation Union" and the Council Conclusions of 2 December 2008 on the definition of a "2020 Vision for the European Research Area" (OJ C 25, 31.1.2009, p. 1) set out the scene for the development of ERA.
