Codecision procedure

A database in English and French (1) is available showing the progress of dossiers subject to the codecision procedure provided for by Article 251 of the Treaty establishing the European Community. The database is regularly updated by the Codecision Legislative Procedures Unit and enables the procedure for legislative acts adopted jointly by the European Parliament and the Council to be followed.

The references of the Council documents referred to in this database are also contained in the public register of Council documents. Official Journals may be obtained via the EUR-Lex website.

During Open Sessions, the public can follow the Council's discussions on legislative acts under the codecision procedure. Preparatory and final acts are voted on in public, with the results of these public votes being displayed.

Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided on this website is accurate and up-to-date. It is provided for information purposes and the Council may not be rendered liable for its content.

Further topical information may be obtained from the Council Press Service/Newsroom. Further information on legislative procedures may be obtained on the Internet sites of the Commission (PRE-Lex) and the European Parliament (Legislative Observatory OEIL).

Further information may be obtained from the Public Information Unit.

(1) Information on dossiers closed by the end of 2006 is available only in French.
