Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on the release of Mrs Flora Brovina on 1 November |
The European Union welcomes the release on 1 November of Mrs Flora Brovina, a symbolic figure for human rights activists, a paediatrician and poet, wrongfully imprisoned by the Milosevic regime.
The European Union commends on this occasion the pardon granted by President Kostunica.
It hopes that the situation of the other Kosovar Albanians who are currently being held will be examined in the light of the new circumstances.
The Central and Eastern European countries associated with the European Union, the associated countries Cyprus, Malta and Turkey, and the EFTA countries Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area align themselves with this declaration.
