President Michel calls a video conference with EU leaders on COVID-19
On 10 March, the members of the European Council will discuss how to coordinate EU efforts to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak. The meeting will start at 17.00 (CET). President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, will also take part in the discussion.
Following consultations with the EU heads of state or government, President Charles Michel has decided to hold a video conference.
“We need to cooperate in order to protect our citizens' health,” stated President Michel.
The meeting will be an opportunity for the leaders to:
- exchange information and coordinate their efforts in order to contain the spread of the virus
- promote and accelerate research into the disease
- discuss how to respond to the economic consequences
