Coreper II
Coreper II is composed of the permanent representative from each of the 27 EU member states. Its role is to do preparatory work for the Council of the European Union in a number of areas, such as foreign and home affairs.
Role
Coreper II (where the 'II' refers to the roman numeral for '2') does preparatory work for the Council in four main policy areas corresponding to Council configurations.
Composition and meetings
Coreper II is composed of the 27 permanent representatives of the EU member states. Its meetings are chaired by the permanent representative of the country that holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
At Coreper II meetings, permanent representatives represent and speak on behalf of their national governments.
The permanent representatives usually meet at least once a week at the Council building in Brussels.
Antici group
The 'Antici group' is a cross-sectoral working party consisting of the closest collaborators to the permanent representatives. This group prepares the Coreper II meetings and helps to form an initial idea of the positions that will be taken at Coreper.
