Visa Working Party
The Visa Working Party is tasked with examining EU visa policy and related legislative and operational matters.
Role
The Visa Working Party is responsible for examining proposals, policy initiatives and other issues related to the EU's common visa policy, including short-stay visas, the Schengen rules and legislation on visas and related information systems. Its work covers legislative proposals, implementation matters and relations with third countries regarding visas.
The working party contributes to the coherence and development of the EU visa framework by preparing Council discussions, coordinating member states' positions and supporting decision-making at EU level.
The working party reports to the Justice and Home Affairs Council.
Composition and meetings
The Visa Working Party is composed of national experts from EU member states. It meets regularly, in line with the Council's work programme and legislative agenda.
