On 1 January 2016, thirty years will have elapsed since Portugal and Spain became fully-fledged members of what was then the European Community. The process had started a decade before, in 1974-75, when the two Iberian dictatorships broke up and set in train a new beginning with their applications for membership to the European Community.

After the storm - How to save democracy in Europe, edited by two authors with notable European connections, Luuk van Middelaar and Philippe Van Parijs, is now available at the Library.

Welcome to issue 30 of the Think Tank Review compiled by the EU Council Library. It references papers published in November 2015. It is worth mentioning that its content can be read in parallel with the European Council agenda, which denotes that academic discussion and research is increasingly interested in and linked to core issues on the European agenda.

General election will be held on Sunday 20 December 2015 in Spain.

In November, the Central Library attended the presentation of the book National Leaders and the Making of Europe: Key episodes in the life of the European Council at the European Political Centre. The conference room was almost full, and among the participants we could count many current and former members of staff of the Council Secretariat.
