Library guide on EU-UN relations
The EU is committed to multilateralism, with a strong and effective United Nations at its core.
This commitment is rooted in the conviction that to be able respond to global crises, challenges and threats, the international community needs an efficient multilateral system founded on the UN Charter and the three pillars of the UN system.
Over the years the EU has established a strong relationship with the UN. Cooperation takes place in a broad range of areas covered by the different UN bodies and organisations.
To help readers gain a deeper understanding of this relationship, the Council Library has compiled a library guide containing a wide variety of useful resources.
Library guide on EU-UN relations
This library guide, which serves as an overview of a selection of available relevant and authoritative resources, but is by no means exhaustive
Browsing through the tabs, you will find books and eBooks, articles and think tank papers, EU publications, UN resources, information platforms, websites, podcast episodes and videos.
EU priorities at the 79th UN General Assembly
The 79th session of the UN General Assembly opened on 10 September 2024. The first day of the high-level general debate will take place on Tuesday 24 September.
Each year the Council adopts priorities for the UN and the UN General Assembly, which guide the EU’s work for the year to come.
The Council’s priorities for the 79th UN General Assembly centre on the EU’s determination to promote multilateral solutions based on the UN Charter and to speed up efforts to implement the 2030 agenda and the sustainable development goals. Taking into account multiple global crises, the EU’s overarching priorities are:
- supporting international peace and security
- advancing sustainable development and financing for development
- addressing climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution
