Irregular arrivals in the EU have decreased significantly since the peak of the migration crisis in 2015.

In 2026, 24 839 irregular arrivals were registered so far. The breakdown per migratory route is as follows:

Central route: 8 489 arrivals
Eastern route: 8 427 arrivals
Western routes: 7 923 arrivals

In April 2026, 5 812 irregular arrivals have been registered. The breakdown per migratory route is as follows:

Central route: 2 371 arrivals
Eastern route: 1 736 arrivals
Western routes: 1 705 arrivals

Top nationalities per route (2026)

Data up to April 2026. Western route arrivals exclude arrivals to Canary Islands.

In 2026, the top nationalities of irregular arrivals were:

  • Afghanistan: 2 659 on the Eastern route
  • Bangladesh:  2510 on the Central route
  • Algeria: 1 981 on the Western route
