Design Thinking - reading references
The world in 2020 is a remarkably different place.
As we adapt to living during a pandemic, this ‘new normal’ will require a fresh mind-set to tackle issues. As countless people have been affected by the impact of the virus, whether physically, mentally, socially or economically, it is imperative that society acts empathetically when striving for solutions. Now more than ever.
How might we do that?
One option is by using human-centred design thinking methodology. Design Thinking is a human-centred approach to solving problems creatively.
This mind-set can be applied to problems big or small in any profession and comprises an iterative process that pushes practitioners to stay focused on human needs when finding solutions. It entails following a series of steps and challenging assumptions, in order to find a solution that is desirable, financially viable and technologically feasible. Users learn how to frame questions, generate ideas and prototypes, and share stories, whilst using many post-it notes!
With that in mind the Council Library has created a reading list of Design Thinking resources to help you get up to speed with the methodology. It contains books, ebooks, abstracts and articles. They range from two-minute reads to more immersive material that can be accessed via the Council Library's online catalogue, Eureka.
Please note, access to some of the resources may be limited to Council staff or subscribers. Non-Council readers can browse Eureka and access the open access resources.
This blog post and reading list do not necessarily represent the positions, policies, or opinions of the Council of the European Union or the European Council.
The Council library reading room is currently closed. The Info Desk remains open on-line and will reply to queries by email from Monday to Friday, 10.00 to 16.00.
