Main results

The European Union Military Committee met at the level of EU Chiefs of Defence (CHODs). The meeting was chaired by General Mikhail Kostarakos, the permanent chairman of the committee.

The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini opened the meeting, providing to the CHODs her vision of the implementation of the EU Global strategy in the area of security and defence. 

EU Chiefs of Defence then examined the EU-NATO cooperation.

CHODs then discussed CSDP military missions and operations, including EU training and advisory missions and EU ongoing operations.

EU Chiefs of Defence discussed the EU-UN partnership on peacekeeping and crisis management.

They also reviewed capabilities initiatives, including the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO), the Coordinated Annual Review on Defence (CARD), the European Defence Industrial Development programme (EDIDP), and military mobility.

In the margins of the meeting, on behalf of the High Representative, General Mikhail Kostarakos presented the EU Naval Force Atalanta Force Commander, Rear Admiral Fabio Gregori with the CSDP medal for extraordinary meritorious service.
