The Citizen Card replaces the following cards: identity card, tax number identification card, social security card, national health service user card, polling card.
Only identity documents of version 002.002.11 and higher conform to the MRZ specifications. Identity documents of versions 001.001.11 and 001.002.11 require manual entering of data, both for registration and for querying databases.
Under the Porto Seguro Agreement, an identical model of Citizen Card can be issued to nationals of the Federative Republic of Brazil, who enjoy equal rights and duties. In that case, in the "Nacionalidade" (nationality) field, the code "BRA" appears and, on the back, the designation "CIDADÃO BRASILEIRO AO ABRIGO DO TRATADO DE PORTO SEGURO", "BRAZILIAN CITIZEN UNDER PORTO SEGURO AGREEMENT". The document does not have optically readable lines (MRZ), but instead bears the indications "NÃO SERVE DE DOCUMENTO DE VIAGEM" and "NOT VALID AS A TRAVEL DOCUMENT".
