A W-type alien's identity card is issued to asylum seekers. With this document, they can prove their identity, nationality and legal stay in the Netherlands. A W2-type alien's identity card is intended for persons who are not in possession of a passport and who for health reasons cannot travel and who have been granted a postponement of departure. With the identity document, they receive an additional sheet of paper ('insert') with a "residence endorsement general" sticker. With the alien's identity document and the insert with the sticker, they can prove their identity, nationality and legal stay in the Netherlands. Specific work is permitted for both types (W and W2) but requires a work permit; other work is not authorised. This identity document does not entitle the holder to cross the border.
