For children under 18 years of age, the validity of the travel document is shorter.

The travel document must be returned if the holder acquires citizenship of the Republic of Slovenia, if the holder acquires a travel document from a country of which they are or are becoming a citizen, or if the holder for whatever reason ceases to have the status of refugee or is stripped of that status. For the purpose of entry, a holder enjoying international protection, which in the Republic of Slovenia is granted on the basis of annual quotas, is issued the refugee travel document without the two fingerprints or the signature, meaning that it is valid for up to 90 days.
