2026 EU budget: main areas
On 15 November 2025, the Council and the European Parliament reached agreement on the annual EU budget for 2026.
Total commitments are set at €192.8 billion and total payments amount to €190.1 billion. €715.7 million have been kept available this year under the expenditure ceilings of the current multiannual financial framework for 2021-2027, allowing the EU to react to unforeseeable needs.
Commitments
Commitments are legal promises to spend money on activities whose implementation extends over several financial years.
