Why circular economy?

Why do we need circular economy? Unlike traditional economic model not dealing with waste and finite resources, circular economy aims for sustainable growth, minimising waste, maintaining value of materials.

Waste in traditional model

  • Air - burning waste contaminates air and causes air pollution
  • Water - waste from the factories affects the underground drinking water
  • Sea - plastic waste goes into the sea water
  • Soil - landfills contaminate soil for farming

Minimising waste: circular economy

  • Eco-innovation - using products that do not harm the environment
  • Resources - reducing dependency on import of natural resources from outside the EU
  • Recycling - reinjecting waste back to the economy via sustainable reuse, recycling, biodegradable waste
