How interoperable databases will boost Europe's security
How interoperable databases will boost Europe's security
Databases used to control borders and fight crime are not talking with each other.
The EU is developing 4 new tools so that authorities can better access and share information across the EU.
1. European search portal: simultaneous search in all relevant EU databases
2. Multiple identity detector: creates an alert when it detects a risk of identity fraud
3. Biometric matching service: cross-checks biometric data in relevant databases
4. Common identity repository: streamlines access to data on non-EU citizens
Improving information flows will help:
- better detect security threats
- combat identity fraud
- improve border checks
- prevent information gaps
