About the Eastern partnership
- Established in 2009 to strengthen links between the EU and its six Eastern neighbours
- Encourages regional cooperation and tailor-made bilateral cooperation between the EU and each partner country
- Supports Eastern partners in moving towards stronger economy, governance, connectivity, and society
- Boosts trade exchanges: trade between the EU and eastern partners exceeded €65 billion in 2020 (+22% in 10 years)
With regard to the participation of Belarus, and in line with the Council conclusions of 12 October 2020, the EU focuses on intensifying cooperation with non-state stakeholders, including notably civil society, independent media, and youth
