EU- Canada summit, Ottawa, 26 September 2014

On 26 September, Mr. Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, and Mr. Barroso, President of the European Commission, represented the EU at the EU- Canada summit.

The meeting was hosted by Canada Prime Minister Mr. Harper in Ottawa.

A new milestone in EU-Canada relations

The summit celebrated the conclusion of the negotiations on the Agreement on Strategic Partnership (SPA) and the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

The SPA touches on a number of mutual priority areas, including energy, security, innovation, sustainable development and the promotion of human rights.

Leaders also shared their vision for strengthened strategic partnership and discuss common interests of the EU and Canada on key foreign policy issues.
