Dr Julie Smith came to the Council to give a lecture on the historical evolution of relations between the UK and the EU. She is the author of the well-received book The UK's Journeys into and out of the EU which analyses UK's long-term relations with the European Communities and the European Union.

The Library and Research team attended an event organised by the European Commission on strategic thinking for library innovation. The presentation was given by Kenn Bicknell, who had transformed a small library into an information hub, which has attracted considerable media attention and 13 million views of its online photos in just a few years.

The event focused on the reforms in Ukraine that have proceeded more slowly than previously against the background of consolidation of executive power under President Poroshenko, resistance from oligarchs and opposition in the Parliament.

On 17 May 1990, the World Health Organization decided to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder. Since 2004, the date marks the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT).
