Reading references on migration

The European Council on 28 June 2018 focused on migration, addressing EU citizens' concerns about the influx of illegal immigrants. The EU leaders called for further measures to curb illegal migration and to prevent uncontrolled flows in the future.

The leaders agreed on a number of actions such as boosting support for the Libyan coastguard, the development of a concept of regional disembarkation platforms for people saved at sea, and a new dedicated external migration management facility to be included in the next EU multiannual financial framework. They acknowledged that solidarity between EU member states is crucial to overcoming the migration challenges.

"As regards our deal on migration, it is far too early to talk about a success. We have managed to reach an agreement in the European Council. But this is in fact the easiest part of the task, compared to what awaits us on the ground, when we start implementing it.", said President Donald Tusk in his remarks on the European Council meetings of 28-29 June 2018.

As migration remains high on the EU's agenda, the Council Library has prepared a list of reading references on the subject. The list includes recent books as well as a selection of think-tank publications and research articles, accessible in our resource discovery service Eureka. Some resources might be restricted to on-site consultation.

New titles on migration will be continuously added to the Council Library collections to support the work of the Council. We also invite our readers to make suggestions by completing the Request Item form in Eureka or by e-mail.
