A-series identity cards are issued to diplomats and consular officials serving in accredited diplomatic and consular representations in Finland, heads of international organisations located in Finland and persons entitled to the same treatment as diplomats, as well as their family members. The identity card is a residence-related document; it is not proof of the holder's identity. An identity card issued to nationals of EU Member States and of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland gives the holder the right to reside in Finland while working or as a family member of someone working.
