President Donald Tusk congratulates Juha Sipilä on his appointment as Prime Minister of Finland
On behalf of the European Union I wish to congratulate Juha Sipilä on his appointment as Prime Minister of Finland.
One of the main challenges for the European Union, including Finland, is to recover fully from the economic crisis and make the economy more solid and competitive. The new government's programme demonstrates that these issues will indeed be on the top of the agenda in Finland.
I look forward to working closely with and welcoming Prime Minister Sipilä at the June European Council where we among other things will discuss the economic situation in Europe, including the need to create a European Digital Single Market.
I would also like to thank outgoing Prime Minister Alexander Stubb for his strong engagement and valuable contributions to the European Council. I wish him all the best in his new job.
