Informal video conference of trade ministers, 12 February 2025

Main results

EU trade ministers held an informal video conference to discuss EU-US trade relations to take stock of the latest developments and prospects for engagement with the US.

Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Maroš Šefčovič also participated in a meeting.

Today's meeting showed that member states are united in solidarity and determined to protect the European steel and aluminium sector against possible market destabilisation. Although the EU-US partnership is of strategic importance, we will support the European Commission in being active in such cases and responding proportionally and responsibly when necessary. At the same time, we want to maintain the offer of positive cooperation with the US, so as to jointly remove barriers on the transatlantic market and foster economic security.
