'Yooki and the Union of the Forest' educational package

Would you like your pupils to develop a basic knowledge of the European Union, but feel the subject is too complex for them?

The educational package 'Yooki and the Union of the Forest' will help them discover what the EU is, why it was created and what the role of the Council and the member states is. It explains the origins of the EU through an imaginary world where Yooki the firefly and his animal friends live.

The package is available for free in 24 languages and is tailored for 7- to 9-year-olds.

It consists of:

  • an illustrated story 'Yooki and the Union of the Forest'
  • an activity book 'Learn with Yooki'
  • an illustrated map of the European Union
  • a teacher's guide

Order a printed copy for free

Subject to stock availability, teachers working in primary schools in the EU can order, free of charge, one print copy of the package, containing the illustrated story, the activity book and the map.

Story book

The story 'Yooki and the Union of the Forest' relates the creation of the EU, using imagery and metaphor. How can Yooki, a young firefly, convince his companions to resolve their disputes?

The magic of the forest will help him as he is counselled by a wise old oak tree and discovers a mysterious place where compromise is stronger than conflict: the Lantern.

The activity book explains the history and events behind the metaphors used in the story.

It includes games and activities you can use in the classroom to help children learn while having fun.

Europa Quest: a quiz-type interactive learning tool
