The vehicle registration certificate Part 1 (or Part 1) must be carried on all journeys; it contains data concerning the vehicle and all relevant formal obligations; it is not an identity document.
When a vehicle is registered, a vehicle registration certificate (Part I) (AUT-GO-01003) and a vehicle registration certificate (Part II) (AUT-GO-02003) are issued in paper form; optionally, it is possible to request a vehicle registration certificate (Part 1) in card form; Part II is combined with the vehicle approval certificate or approval document (e.g. type-approval certificate); the vehicle registration certificate (Part I) in paper form becomes invalid in such cases following receipt of the card, and at the latest eight weeks after issue of the card.
The card number does not correspond to the serial number on the vehicle registration certificate (Part II).
Parts I and II must always be handed in when the vehicle is taken out of circulation, when data are amended, rectified or supplemented, when a vehicle is registered to or de-registered from an exchangeable registration plate, when a replacement registration plate is assigned following theft or loss, when a personalised registration plate is assigned while the registration is still valid, and when damaged vehicle registration certificates are re-issued.
