Happy Book Lovers Day 2021

Bibliophiles and bookworms, your day has come.

A day to rejoice and get lost in the pages. A day to curl up in a sunny spot and spend some time reading. A day to show some love for the written word. For today is not just any day, today is Book Lovers Day!

Sticker of seat for book readers in Slovenia

Celebrated globally on August 9, it is a day to celebrate all things book-related.

For instance, did you know that on buses in Ljubljana, Slovenia, there are not only seats reserved for the elderly and pregnant women, but also special spaces for reading books! What an excellent initiative!

So on this day, why not read a story to a child, buy a book from a bookshop or borrow one from your local library?

If you are looking for some reading recommendations, you can check out our ‘Readers of Europe’ campaign, which consists of books recommended by 23 Permanent Representations to the EU in Brussels, around the theme of ‘Travel across Europe through literature’.

However you choose to celebrate it, Happy Book Lovers Day to all!
