International Open Access Week - 24-30 October 2016

On 24-30 October 2016, we celebrate International Open Access Week, with the theme “Open in Action.” This year's theme aims to encourage scholars, researchers, student and other stakeholders to take action to make their work more openly available.

The Open Access Week is a global event that takes place each year during the last week of October. It calls for free online access to the results of science research and the right to use and re-use those results.

It is a successor of the National Day of Action for Open Access, organised across the United States by Students for Free Culture and the Alliance for Taxpayer Access on 15 February 2007. The following year, 14 October was designated Open Access Day and celebrated worldwide. In 2009 the event was expanded to a one-week format. In 2012, it was decided that an 'official' theme would be selected each year, to focus attention on a specific issue. Open Access Week includes events such as conferences, talks, seminars, symposia and other activities celebrating information openness.
