A video for World Book and Copyright Day

Did you know that today is World Book and Copyright Day? Chosen during UNESCO's General Conference held in Paris in 1995, it is now globally recognised as a day to celebrate the joy of books and reading. Each year, on 23 April, celebrations take place all over the world 'to recognise the scope of books - a link between the past and the future, a bridge between generations and across cultures.'

To mark this special day, a group of trainees from the Council of the EU have created a video showing six trainees talking about their favourite books by European authors. In describing the books, the trainees have used all 24 official EU languages, switching from one language to another when portraying their favourite book. The result speaks for itself, meaning that literature - and this is especially true in Europe - crosses all borders, and its essence can be delivered everywhere.

• The Council library is located in the Justus Lipsius building, at JL 02 GH, Rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 175, 1048 Brussels (Froissart entrance) – opening hours Monday to Friday 10.00 – 16.00.
• It is open to all staff of the Council of the European Union and the European Council, trainees, permanent representations of member states, staff of other EU institutions and bodies, and researchers and students upon request. Access to some library holdings may be restricted to on-site consultation.
