Main results

The Council held a debate on an amended regulation on the coordination of social security systems. The new text updates and modernizes current rules and is meant to facilitate labour mobility, ensuring fairness for those who move and for taxpayers.

In the context of the European Semester 2017, ministers discussed how to enhance labour market access and reduce divergences across the EU. The Council adopted conclusions on the 2017 annual growth survey and joint employment report. The Commission presented to the Council an overview of the 2017 country reports.

The Presidency and the Commission informed the Council about preparations for the Tripartite Social Summit to be held on 8 March.

The Council adopted conclusions on enhancing the skills of women and men in the EU labour market.

The Presidency informed ministers about the state of play on the posting of workers directive.
