Partners for multilateralism, international law, peace and prosperity summit
The President of the European Council, António Costa, together with the President of Kenya, William Ruto, and the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, will convene the Partners for multilateralism, international law, peace and prosperity summit (P4M summit) on 21 September 2026 in the margins of the United Nations General Assembly High Level Week.
Our initiative aims to be an open platform for partners from all parts of the world who are ready to defend common principles and work towards practical solutions. It is a network for dialogue, coalition-building and practical cooperation. It will support the work of the United Nations and other multilateral formats, help build bridges across regions, and contribute to advancing the reform and modernisation of the multilateral institutions - helping to turn shared commitments into concrete action.

As geopolitical tensions, conflicts, and emerging global challenges such as climate change and artificial intelligence are increasing pressure on the multilateral institutions, the P4M summit will seek to bring together a diverse group of countries from different regions with the aim of defending and strengthening the multilateral system and promoting peace and inclusive prosperity, by fostering a debate at the highest political level.
The leaders will hold a press conference after the event.
Background
The event is taking place in the margins of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
The President of the European Council, António Costa, will address the General Assembly on behalf of the EU on Thursday 24 September.
