Accreditation
Accreditation for summits and high level events
Valid for: European Council meetings (summits) and other high-level international meetings
Special meeting of the European Council, 25 May 2021
Please note that, as of today, the Special meeting of the European Council on Tuesday 25th of May will be open only to a very limited number of media representatives. We will promptly inform you should an improvement of the epidemiological situation allow us to lift the current restrictions.
1-year press badge
Only for EU national residing in Belgium or a non-EU national who has lived in Belgium for at least 5 years.
This badge is valid for all European Councils and other high-level meetings, as well as for regular working days. With this badge you no longer have to apply for accreditation for each event separately.
Applications for accreditation for the 1-year badge for the calendar year 2021 are now open.
Deadline 4 June 2021, at 14:00 CET.
Note to the attention of UK nationals
As from the 1st January 2021 media representatives with UK nationality must meet the requirement of having a permanent residence in Belgium for at least 5 consecutive years, to be able to apply for 1-year press badge.
UK nationals not complying with this requirement will still be able to apply ad-hoc for European Councils and other high-level meetings.
Standard accreditation
Valid for: Council meetings (at the ministerial level) and any other meetings, with the exception of European Council and high-level meetings.
One-day accreditation
It can be obtained from the security desk at the entrance to the press centre. Please bring the following documents:
- a valid ID or passport
- a valid press card or a letter signed by the editor-in-chief of your media organisation that confirms your status as a journalist and states which event you are covering
EU inter-institutional badge
The EU institutions have a joint accreditation scheme for Brussels-based correspondents. It is managed by the European Commission.
