The new EU/EFTA residence permit in credit card format will be issued progressively by the cantons until their general introduction in June 2021.
This residence permit is granted to all nationals of a Member State of the European Union (EU) or of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). This document is also issued to nationals of third States who hold a cross-border commuter permit (category "G"), to gainfully employed spouses and to the children of members of foreign representations or international governmental organisations (category "Ci"). The various types of residence permits for the nationals of EU/EFTA Member States are as follows:
category "C" - settlement permit (permanent) (cf. CHE-HO-04033)
category "B" - residence permit (annual) (cf. CHE-HO-04021)
category "L" - short-term residence permit (cf. CHE-HO-04021)
category "G" - the cross-border commuter permit is issued to nationals of third States with a cross-border commuter authorisation - no specimen currently available
category "Ci" - the residence permit with gainful employment (permanent) is issued to gainfully employed spouses or to the children of members of foreign representations or international governmental organisations - no specimen currently available
