Transparency

The Eurogroup is continuously working on improving transparency, in order to provide more consistency in the way citizens and national parliaments in the member states are informed of its activities.

In September 2018, President Centeno initiated a review of the Eurogroup's transparency policy, responding to concerns expressed by national parliaments and the EU ombudsman.

In September 2019, the Eurogroup agreed to a list of concrete actions to improve transparency. Actions included:

  • creating an online register of publicly available Eurogroup documents
  • expanding the content of Eurogroup summing-up letters
  • ensuring that the right to access to documents is clearly stated on Eurogroup webpages
  • publishing the calendar of Eurogroup Working Group (EWG) meetings
  • publishing the draft Eurogroup (non-annotated) agenda as soon as it is approved by the EWG
  • improving the EWG webpage

With the launch of the Eurogroup document register in February 2020, all actions have been completed. Ministers have committed to regularly assess and review the transparency policy.
