Single Resolution Fund
The Single Resolution Fund is an emergency fund that can be used in times of crisis. The fund aims to prevent banks from failing after other options have been exhausted.
The fund is financed by the banking sector itself. All banks across the 21 countries that are members of the EU’s banking union must pay an annual fee (referred to as contributions) to the fund. The amount an individual bank has to pay is based on size and risk.
The fund has been build built up over an 8-year period starting in 2016 and ending in 2023. This build-up has been carried out via the pooling of contributions collected at national level.
