The past month has seen sustained protests for racial justice and against police brutality take place on a global scale.

Sparked in response to the killing of George Floyd by a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the protests have been frequent and far reaching. Citizens across the EU have come out in their thousands in support of the Black Lives Matter protests, showing solidarity with the American movement and highlighting the need to tackle systemic racism in Europe.  

But what does it really mean to be antiracist? The author Ibram X. Kendi has stated that "the heartbeat of antiracism is self-reflection, recognition, admission and fundamentally self-critique".

With that in mind, the Council Library has compiled a reading list of resources which could be of interest to those looking to expand their knowledge of this issue. This reading list is by no means exhaustive, it is but a sample of the array of material available.

The Council Library encourages everyone to read up on the subject, with the resources included in this list and beyond.
