Back to school or university – dive into the Council’s offer

Are you eager to find out more about the Council and the EU? Looking for inspiration for your research or your classes? We’ve got plenty of options that could be of interest!

Educational games, but also quizzes, publications and videos – just a small sample of what the Council of the EU has to offer. We’ve put together a short selection of materials and interactive experiences for both secondary schools and higher education.

Learn about the Council

How does the Council work? What is the difference between the European Council and the Council of the European Union (EU)? What is the EU Presidency? We provide the answers to all these questions in an attractive, audiovisual way. Both the Council’s website and our YouTube channel provide dozens of educational videos.

If you or your students enjoy competing, then games and quizzes are for you. Test your knowledge of the EU in this quiz.

Impersonate the Council

Have you ever wondered how negotiations are conducted in the Council? Now you can simulate them in the classroom or with a group of friends. Play the part of an EU minister and dive into negotiations on a fair fashion label. With customised scenarios for each EU member state, you can experience the subtleties of the EU decision-making process and negotiate the shape of a fictional piece of legislation.

The game is designed for a group of 20 to 50 participants. It lasts approximately two hours. All related materials, instructions and country-specific sheets are available for download in all EU languages.

Visit the Council

While physical visits are still on hold due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Council has created a complementary digital experience. You can start with a 360° virtual tour to discover the “House of the EU member states” and learn how your government works together with others to shape Europe's future.

Up to more interactive experiences? We also offer online group visits tailored to your needs. In these virtual information sessions a representative of the Council will explain the functioning of the institution and policy you wish to focus on. Every session is different and adapted to your language preferences or other needs.

Carry out your research with the Council

If you need specific information for a thesis you’re working on, we can help with that too. The Council’s library regularly prepares reviews of the analyses of a wide range of topics produced by major European think tanks. Our skilled librarians also compile topical reading lists that might be useful for academic research.

We’re currently working on a one-stop shop that will bring together our entire educational offer in just one place. We’ll soon be announcing its launch. So stay tuned for our next editions!
